  • It’s going to be a night full of excellent networking for expanding your business.

Any one of these may be your perfect reason to celebrate with The Salt Lake Chamber Women’s Business Center (WBC) at their annual summer social, August 10th. Pick your reason and snag a ticket. It’s an event 20 years in the making and the night will reflect the history and the time commitment the committee has put in to host a glamorous party. The night begins with walking up the red carpet, photographers snagging glamorous pictures of you and your friends, catered hors d’oeuvres by Cuisine Unlimited, bidding on upscale silent auction items, live entertainment, by Mama J. Love, networking, presentation of the 2017 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year, and even an opportunity to win jewelry and two round-trip tickets from Alaska Airlines. This party will be epic!

“This is their main fundraiser for the year so they can offer their services to their clients for free. Without our sponsors, the generous grant from the SBA, and donations, we couldn’t grow women entrepreneurs and support them in Utah,” said Kimberly Holley, chair of this year’s planning committee.

She has been working with her committee for the last several months, putting together each exciting detail to throw what will be a legendary night.

Started in 1997, the WBC empowers women entrepreneurs in Utah by offering training, networking, mentoring, and consulting. Back in the 90s, they had a grant to help provide internet training offering classes particular to the needs at the time.

One of those classes? “What is a Search Engine?”

Think you need that class today?! Perhaps it would be called, “Does anyone search on anything beside Google?”

The WBC has been training on technology and all of its changes over the past 20 years with that early class as a great example of how much has changed since its founding. Today, WBC has its own website with tons of online resources including online training and virtual services throughout the state. Expanding on their technology services is a key growth area they focus on, with help from money raised from the summer social and other events.

One of their recent blogs, “Building Your Supporting Cast,” went in-depth on great tips for finding your core team members to help grow your business, and picking the right outside services to support your goals. Who you surround yourself, especially when starting out, is one of the most important decisions you make. If they don’t share your vision and make up for the strengths that you lack, you may struggle. Part of the focus for each event, fancy or informal, that the WBC hosts, is to create an environment for networking and building your supporting cast.

“Every woman needs their tribe,” Holley said, “both in their personal life and their business life. We need to support each other and share our skills with each other.”

What is your tribe like? Have you found them?

The people working at the WBC could be a part of your tribe. They are one of its greatest resources, many of them experienced business owners, and all dedicated to nurturing women business owners through the entrepreneurial experience. “The employees are so amazing and ready and willing to help you,” Holley said. She explained how they provide support through helping with a business plan, understanding financials, connecting with the right mentors in the right industry, and that they have “genuine love for these small business women.”
