Actress Sarah Lancaster knows that it’s never too late to live the life you were meant to live, and that’s what drew her to her latest role in the new movie “The Stray.”
The family film, set to be released on October 6, 2017, tells the true story of how a stray dog changes the lives of a family on the brink of falling apart.
Lancaster, who is known for her roles in the NBC comedy “Chuck” and “Saved by the Bell: The New Class,” plays “Michelle Davis,” a mother and the backbone of the family.
“She’s a strong, loyal, compassionate woman,” says Lancaster.
The stray dog is “Pluto” and he quickly makes himself at home with the Davis family. Dad played by Michael Cassidy (Argo, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice) is too focused on his career and neglecting his marriage and family.
“It’s Michelle who puts her foot down and says this is not the life we set out for,” Lancaster tells HER magazine.
Director Mitch Davis shares his personal story about how Pluto saved him and his family in the film.
“I know there are countless families across America who could say the same thing about a pet that greatly impacted them with its unconditional love – which is why I hope that families will see this film together” says Davis.
Pluto ends up being more than a dog, but a guardian angel for the family. In the movie, the dog saves a toddler, brings comfort and companionship to a 9-year-old boy, helps restore a marriage, and repairs a broken father-son relationship.
“I love pieces about family dynamics,” says Lancaster, who was pregnant with her second child while filming.
Lancaster is just getting back from maternity leave and she has a busy year ahead of her with another new project in the works. “I’ve written a film that’s gearing up to shoot in New York,” she says. “It’ll also be my first producing endeavor and I’m just beside myself with excitement.”
